Located in Oceanport, New Jersey, Monmouth Park Racetrack was originally opened on the 30th of July 1870, and has played host to the Breeders' Cup World Championships of thoroughbred horse racing on October 26th and 27th, 2007. The 11-race event concluded with the 24th running of the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic.
The track's marquee event is the Resorts Casino & Hotel Haskell Invitational, named after Amory L. Haskell. The race was first run in 1968 as a handicap, but was made into an Invitational Handicap in 1981. It is now a 1⅛-mile test for three-year-olds run in early August. Monmouth Park also hosts the Jersey Derby originally held at Garden State Park until its closure in 2001.
