Opened on December 25, 1934, Santa Anita Park is the oldest racetrack in Southern California. Due its location and surrounding landscape, the course is considered by many as the world's most beautiful race track.
In its heyday, the track attracted Hollywood stars Betty Grable, Lana Turner, Edgar Bergen, Jana Russell, Cary Grant, Ester Williams, among others. Bing Crosby, Joe E. Brown, Al Jolson, and Harry Warner were all stockholders of Santa Anita track.
Currently the race course hosts prominent annual racing events during winter and spring, including the highly popular Santa Anita Derby, Sunshine Millions Day and the annual Santa Anita Handicap.
The Thoroughbred meet takes place at Santa Anita from early May through October. A quarter horse meet is held from January through March.
